City council agrees to pay for half of water for county ducks - elynews.com At least the ducks will be happy. At its regular bimonthly meeting, held March 11, the Ely City Council voted to pay for half of the water used to keep ducks, geese and swans afloat at the county duck pond. The city had considered charging the county the full ,660 a year for the roughly 32,000 gallons of city water that course through the pond and on through the storm drains each day.

Letters: Cameron's image - www.independent.co.uk The Independent carries a short piece by Nigel Morris (11 March), where Ed Vaizey is quoted as saying that David Cameron is "much more conservative" than he has taken very great care to appear. Since Gordon Brown is now on the same wavelength as Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel, the inference would be that Cameron is very right-wing indeed. Other indicators point in this direction, too.
